Granted, that goes for a lot of 'mons, but in the case of the fire croc, it's especially so-- rounding out the weird blockiness of its body, making it more expressive and fixing how awful its fire looks (or in that case, removing it entirely) does wonders for its appearance.
The fire really is the ugliest part of its model. It just doesn't look right, especially compared to the way fire is rendered on other mons. The flames don't even come out of its mouth, they're just glued to its cheeks! It's easiest to see when it opens its jaws wide.
