Give me one good reason TPC couldn't have had a new spin-off game ready to release this year in the absence of a main game. They would have known for years already that 2024 was going to be a dead spot for the franchise. Toss out a new Mystery Dungeon, or revive Ranger, or something.

This and the fact that spinoffs don't sell as well as mainline games but still require similar budgets. They just aren't as profitable as main series nor can they cram them full of infinite microtransactions and updates like low budget mobile shit.

They may be put to shame by the difference in quality, but Game Freak is in no danger of losing the ip. It'd take both Nintendo and Creatures to oust them from TPC and that's highly unlikely to happen without a drop in sales/profits to justify the legal mess. This isn't the 80's Nintendo doesn't give a shit about brand quality and neither do consumers. They'll keep raking in the dough for minimal effort.

But why would they be? They're in no danger and they'd know that. Worst case scenario if the higher ups did face any real scrutiny they'd be given a nebulous, hands off role with a pay raise to keep them out of the way. They'd still get the money and, in the eyes of the masses at least, the credit.

Because mobile games gives more profit, keeps content up to date, requires less work and management of releasing new games every and has a bigger income due to gache gimmick. Plus the side games do not sell as well as the mainline games. Even though games like Colossum, Stadium series and Mystery Dungeon did well in sales when they were released it just pales in comparison to what the mainline game sales got.

also, fwiw GF are the reason for TPC's existence, since Genius Sonority were formed without GF's knowledge and Colosseum was made without GF's approval; TPC was created to manage the brand as a result because nintendo made pokemon games without the actual creators' explicit approval which tbf is morally fucked but legally they had the right.

TPC and its consequences have been disastrous for the franchise
