The Lass they were eying was a chipper girl. Haley’s day had gone fairly well, despite her Lotad and Shroomish being soundly defeated by a brunette Trainer in a red bandanna. But she was motivated by her loss. Maybe someday, she’d get to rematch that girl with a Ludicolo and a Breloom instead. They’d be less adorable, but they’d sure have power to spare!

These thoughts gave the Lass a slight smile as she contemplated her future, deciding it was about time to head back home: Rustboro City, just north of here, where she could finish up her homework for the day and enjoy a nice dinner afterwards.

Suddenly, she heard the sound of footsteps close by, tapping along the grassy path. Two pairs of them, at that! Who would be coming up behind her like this? A surprise Double Battle?!

“Where do you think you’re going, little lady?” The voice dripped with casual smugness, as if its blonde, long-haired owner couldn’t be bothered to take this situation seriously. “You know what happens when Trainers’ eyes meet. Time for a Double Battle!”
