It actually becomes enjoyable. It was the first romhack I played and it forced me to focus on other modifiers rather than simply overleveling Pokemons. Defeating Carlito was effing satisfying.

I assume you're at the 3rd gym. Don't worry this is the last time it is hard, and it's only hard because your pokemon selection sucks.

After the not-rock cave, the game opens up a lot and you get a lot of really good pokemon.
