Pokemon Adventures is a clear and blatant case of what I'm saying, and many years ago that manga was reduced to ridicule, it doesn't even try to tell something anymore.
I don't want to be negative, but come on, it's Pokémon, they've always done that, it's always been that way. ALWAYS. I'm not revealing any hidden truth. You have to accept things as they are and enjoy them, you don't have to be cajoled by idiots like Shudo who alienated the fandom with his pretentiousness and pseudo-intellectuality. The authors try to do what they can to the extent they can, they can't detach themselves from the reality they were hired to do. Yuyama himself says it indirectly when he said that a Pokémon Master is a silly dream of Ash's. And in the end we don't even have an answer to that ("being friends with all the pokemon", lol).
Do you expect them to do something with Misty? They will never do anything, not with Dawn, Serena, Brock, etc. Ash barely had a conclusion and it was pathetic.
