I‘m hoping for Mega Scyther since it would deconfirm that mega evolutions only push past the end of their evolution line, which would allow Pokémon like Mawile and Banette to receive evolutions in the future.
I also believe that Greninja should get two mega evolutions akin to CHARIZARD. One is Ash-Greninja redesigned to not have any similarities with Ash. The other takes design elements from its previous stages like being bright blue and regaining its frubbles like how Mega Ampharos regained its wool.

I think the best megas are for underwhelming 3-stage lines that catapult them into actual usability. So some good candidates, in my mind at least, would be

How are they replacements when you can't use any of them in normal playthroughs of games after the ones they were introduced in? Regular Weezing, Persian line, Ninetales line, Goodra line, Zoroark line, etc. are all over Scarlet and Violet.

Mega evolution sometimes stimulates the genes of the Pokemon to bring out what they previously had, and use them to make them stronger. In Ampharos' case it now uses its wool to house its electric orbs and now resembles a cloud.

Yeah, that'd be ideal. Though there are some cases where I think giving single are two-stage lines Megas worked fine.
I will say though that the existence of Archuladon does make me question that. Like did Duraludon really need a Mega?
Like imagine if Arcanine evolved. Or Milotic. Lapras. Etc.
I think it'll be hard to really predict new Megas this time around outside of the main five speculated about.
