>>56304736I'm about as old as most fans of pokemon get, having playing Red right when it came out, and I don't begrudge any of these posters their own childhood experiences. I had fun and thought dumb stuff when playing Red, so I'm glad they had similar experiences with Black, X, Scarlet, or whatever. And personally, I do think the series peaked in certain ways with B2W2 and HGSS, as those were the most feature-complete 2D games and did a great job fleshing out the narrative and characters. Some things got better with time, and some things changed for the worse in my opinion, but disregarding someone's opinion just because they are younger is shortsighted. I would rather kids think it's cool that I like Pokemon too, and not hate that I am interested in it because I shit on them for being younger.
>>56304836Yeah, the Pokemon Tower is a good comparison. That stuff is only spooky if you're a kid. The top-down view and cartoony nature of Pokemon just doesn't lend itself well to creating a scary atmosphere for anyone but kids that have super active imaginations and don't have solid grasps on what's real and what's not. Like, kids will sit around and have heartfelt debates about whether Santa Claus is real or not, so the idea of ghosts existing and being in a game where they might kill your pokemon or whatever seems within their view of possibility. An adult is just going to view these in-game settings as quaint.
