If you don't want to deal with blatant bait and disingenuous posters, (it's okay if you do, I often get headaches browsing this place) I would again recommend not using 4chan and instead using social media like Twitter or Discord, who are not only moderated much closely by their owners but are also self-moderated by their own communities. This would allow you to discuss pokemon whilst avoiding things like aggressive baiters completely whilst still being able to discuss your favorite topics.

I'd do another game after the FRLG run. No idea which one we will end up picking but maybe HGSS works better here, and would be natural progression after the Kanto remakes.

that's fair! i like a lot of things about HGSS but Crystal in particular holds a lot of nostalgia for me.

HGSS are amazing games and the best remakes by far, but the Crystal exclusive content draws me back to my GBC every time i want to go back to johto.

Yeah Crystal is pretty good alright.
But personally it's hard to resist the follower pokemon in HGSS, especially since I generally go for building teams with exclusively cute pokemon.
