The farmer, I try to inject whatever difficulty I can and leveling a party equally with occasional rotations is always at least a little more challenging than one powerhouse. This goes for entries with and without HMs and Cut on my fire starter is just tradition when possible

There's nothing wrong with using HM slaves. If anything I like that it gives me an excuse to have weaker Pokémon on my team for the entire run, because they have a utility for something outside of battle.

As much as I originally disliked it, I enjoy having all that extra exp so I can catch everything I see and rotate my team every so often without having to grind excessively. It made leveling tons of pokemon during the story of SV much easier for me than it was for me to level just a few in the post-game (because I am bad at raids).

I just did a solo run of Pokémon X. My Pokémon was level fucking 100 before I even set foot in the Pokémon League. That has literally never happened to me in any other mainline game.
They throw the same amount of xp at you they always did, but now instead of it being divided amongst all the Pokémon you are using, it’s just cloned to all the Pokémon you are using.

I actually attempted to play through FireRed a few months ago using only one Pokémon. I have no idea how I thought I was having fun that way as a kid. I just steamrolled everything and it wasn't fun at all. Only way I could probably make playing like that fun is to use a total shitmon.

Solo runs are more fun in romhacks.

My little sister used to play like this and let me assure you, she clearly wasn't having fun. Oh her tears when she couldn't catch Mewtwo with her shit-ass team. It was funny as hell.

I did that as a kid. Tried playing gen 1 with only one random shitmon and then certain mid pokemon like scyther or magmar. It was somewhat fun.
