The old-style Zorua looks exactly like a recoloured Vulpix, but the new-style Vulpix looks nothing like Zorua. The only one, in my opinion, that actually feels like it could fit in the new games is that new-style Pidgey, and it arguably looks good in both styles (and real life sparrows tend to have more smooth-looking feathers like that).
All of these are first stages anyway, so I don't see why it's bad for them to be stylised towards cuteness.
