What in the world is going on at Game Freak?

Ok, so real talk. Memes, bait and trolling aside. What in the world is going on inside Game Freak right now?

Leading into this year's Pokémon Presents many, many credible leakers (even ones outside of the Nintendo space) seemed dead set on there being a Unova revisit of some sort followed by Gen 10 in 2025. No peep of Kalos. Suddenly Pokémon Day comes around with a super rushed, vague trailer that almost seems like they weren't ready to put out.

Now fast forward to August 2024. We still know NOTHING other than the name of the game and the release year. Rumors are flying around and it seems something is going wrong somewhere in the chain. Some saying that Game Freak is struggling to adapt to developing for Switch 2 and that jump has been more than they anticipated, forcing them to quickly scale up and not rely on contractors. Some saying that Game Freak is apparently in a dispute with TPC and Nintendo and was trying to unionize at some point recently which halted game development, hence the gap year. Some saying that the Legends ZA is coming in May 2025 and that there's even another experimental game coming in late 2025 exclusive to Switch 2 (which may or may not be based in Unova) followed by Gen 10 in 2026 as a 30th anniversary marketing consumerist extravaganza.

What in the world is going on within Game Freak and how are they fucking shit up so bad? Is this a bad omen for the future of Pokémon? Can they continue like this? We need a win more than ever with the series being scrutinized more and more, with the anime faltering and failing to capture an audience, as well as mobile games declining in popularity. Yet Game Freak and TPC are sitting there with their hands over their ears ignoring it all, too busy trying to launch yet another mobile game that will inevitably be discontinued in 4 years.
