Never mind all the scuttlebutt points to Nintendo wanting to transfer as many of the 145m Switch ownbers to the new system,, so it's got profile transfer, backwards comnpatibility and auto-upscaling of Switch titles played on it. Meaning Game Freak don't need to chase Launch year, as new Gens invariably sell more copies of any other kind of game they put out and sell the most amount of hardware units to play them on, due to Nintendo releasing kiddy versions of the hardware in time for Pokémon's debut.
