Japanese region in that bit just north of Kanto and includes Kanto as postgame. Gf too lazy to include Johto (probably 50% chance even with dlc). Takes place 30 years after RBY with Kantonian forms of gen 3-9 pokemon. Maybe include a couple of gymleaders that were from the originals like misty and brock, but a few new leaders. That's the only way I think you could do it while feeling fresh. Obviously the performance and graphics would be shit, but that'll go for any gen 10 game we get.

Most people who whine about "nostalgia pandering" are those simply jealous their favorite generation doesn't see as much attention. How hard is it to fucking understand that the part of a franchise that made it what it is gets more spotlight, you don't have to like it but half of these people sing a completely different tune when their childhood gets attention instead

that's fine but there comes a point where it overshadows anything new. mega evolution was certainly made in part to put new spins on old favorites but there was zero reason for the kanto starters to get megas and not the kalos starters. they thankfully corrected this in S/M and the alola starters have Z-moves, but the galar starters didnt get g-max forms until the first DLC (admittedly any mon is capable of dynamax though)
