i'm not OP, but i do somewhat agree; i think if pokemon cannot look good in sprite form, the designs are bad. maybe not GBC sprites, but something like gen 4 or 5; if you cannot express a pokemon's design in the medium that pokemon were created in for for nearly 20 years, your design is flawed.
i say this because even though there are designs from gens 8 and 9 i really hate, i've seen them in sprite form for projects like Infinite Fusion, or even for GBC hacks or fangames like PokeWilds, where i've gone "wow, this looks really cool here, it's just the 3d model that looks bad!"
i think GF is at their best when constrained by sprites; adapt things into 3d later.
