>>56352534I did also like really gen 3, especially Emerald. Hoenn is actually still one of my fav regions. May/Brendan is however one of the worst rivals in the mainline series. At least Wally was there to make up for them.
But, perhaps ironically, I cannot stand ORAS. I think Zinnia is one of the worst characters in the entire franchise. I think it's a downgrade of gen 3 in roughly every aspect, maybe bar the implementation of phys/spec split (but there's romhacks for that).
The thing is that I always yearned for a bigger sense of adventure in Pokémon games. Something where I wasn't just railroaded into a generic "evil team does evil things with legendary but (You) alone save the day :)" story that wasn't even well written, and where every character was either overly friendly or comically evil. The story was always serviceable, but lacked nuance. Same with the character writing. It was charming at best, but lacked any depth.
What I always wanted was a "Stand By Me" experience - a movie that the very first game referenced, which then was referenced again in the GOTCHA! music video. I wished that the games would capture this kind of feeling as well. And SV basically gave me exactly that. That's why I'm so fond of it, personally. It goes into a direction I always wanted Pokémon to go into.
From what I see, a lot of the complaints you have are just visual/design things, which are obviously an objective taste thing. Be honest though, isn't your dislike politically charged? You called Arven a tranny for no reason. What's the point of that?
