Ironically had he done the opposite (post the gym leader teams as they are but ADD an extra Gen 2 Pokémon preferably a complete shitter like Delibird, people would correct him and it would actually highlight the fact that only 4 Gen2 mons were used before the elite 4 and add to his other point of Gen2 mons being too shit to be used. Trying to erase the Gen2 mons that were aces (particularly Miltank, widely seen as the first casual filter in Pokemon) just ended up having the opposite effect and make himself look like a fucking idiot
