And I never even considered that Masuda Methoding is so much worse for those rare mons who take longer to hatch. I only ever did it once for a shiny Froakie, took me over 30 boxes and months, I was even using hatching O-powers and the Oval Charm. Shit is arduous, never again lol.
Another anecdote if you care to read, for my first ever romhack (and emulated Pokemon game) I decided to play FireRed Omega, and in my Pokemon catching frenzy (I was never a big Pokedex filler, but the amount of species felt so novel and exciting) I came across 2 shinies before Lavendar Town! First was an Oddish in Viridian Forest, the second was a Beldum by the entrance of Rocky Tunnel which I had been dreading to enter, I was in disbelief at my luck. I ended up losing it just hours later after accidentally overwriting my progress up to Celadon by misclicking one of the older savestate hotkeys... I had only been using savestates to play up to that point because crusty old VBA was struggling to save files normally and I didn't try troubleshooting it until realizing that it was impossible to play the Post-Game that way. Since then I've been too scared to fuck with savestates almost ever in every game I emulate lmao.
I guess shiny Beldum is that elusive, even when I thought I caught one, it just slipped out of my grasp like a bar of Gold and Silver soap.
I've hacked one in for Battle Frontier runs and some playthroughs, but I'll always be a little salty it's gone lol.
