>>56385426Genwunners are unhinged and blinded by nostalgia. They got so attached to Gen 1 that when Pokemania eventually died off, as fads do, they couldn't accept it was due to the passage of time, the flaws with the game becoming more obvious and, critically, the PS2's release. No, it HAD to be Gen 2's fault for "killing" the fad despite Gen 2 being an objective improvement in almost every way. Because of this delusional worship of the thing that was current when they were kids, they have to use coping mechanisms to pretend that everything new is bad and that Gen 1 was better ("All the Pokemon introduced after the original 151 are badly designed because they just are!" or getting mad at FRLG for offering a better way to experience Kanto). They also ignore that the games themselves were only one part of what made Pokemania a fad; the anime and merch campaign carried the series hard.
Of course, try and explain this to them and they'll stick their fingers in their ears and say "You don't get it, you had to be there!" (ignoring that "you had to be there" is just an attempt to claim that ageing poorly is actually a good thing and it's everyone else who's wrong). It's a bit like Transformers fans who still seethe at anything made after the first 2 years of the franchise.
