Compare to fan design based on storm petrel. Not exactly clever buy it's more interesting than Gamefreak's design

They should have used St. Elmo's Fire for inspiration desu.
St. Elmo's fire would often appear on ship masts (like frigates) and the wingtips of planes during storms. They have a spooky glow, so you can keep the Electric/Flying and make it an honorary Ghost-type as well. Could be pretty cute/cool

I think it's fine, though it's firgate bird inspiration is weirdly understated. I think giving it's throat sac something visually akin to Bellibolt's plasma orb look would've been better. Also I kind of just prefer Wattrel.

I mean he's got a point. The design doesn't really DO anything with the concept. There's no pun/wordplay, "Job", exaggeration of anatomy or really anything to set it apart from just being a real bird painted yellow for electric.

That’s not a bad thing. It’s a frigate bird who stores electricity in its throat sack without anything else to overcomplicate the concept. I’m very pleased they didn’t continue Wattrel’s subtle aviator helmet motif and give it a pilot job.

I don't see it man. Wattrel, maybe. But Kilowattrel is just so bland.
The fanart isn't anything to right home about. Mediocre in the extreme. But it's still looks like they put more thought into the design that Game Freak did.

One of my new favorites. Excellent typing with a great moveset, and the design reminds me a lot of the earlier generations with how it's relatively simple with just a few little design details like the lightning bolt pattern to is feathers.

This image is wrong. The "height" for bird pokemon is actually their wingspan. Just as for quadrupedal or fish pokemon it is their horizontal length. Go look at Noctowl in SV, where Pokemon actually have their official scale, and you'll see that it's shorter than the player character, a young child that is shorter than most human NPCs in the game. The birds are still plenty big, but they're not as massive as the image shows.
