When it comes to regional forms reinventing old Pokemon, what do you prefer?

>A. Regional form for the whole line. E.g. A!Grimer, G!Darumaka, H!Voltorb
>B. Only the last stage of the line gets a regional form. E.g. A!Exeggutor, H!Avalugg, the Hisuian starters
>C. Regional form and a new evolution. E.g. G!Zigzagoon, G!Corsola, G!Mr. Mime
>D. Regional form and the last stage is replaced by a different evolution. E.g. G!Meowth, G!Yamask, P!Wooper

The best to me is regional form and the final evolution is replaced by a new mon, regional forms are cool, but in general I feel instead of uplifting an underwhelming pokemon that needs some help, they instead completely overshadow and outclass them since they’re often designed with a newgen powercreep filled mindset. At least this way, a pokemon like clodsire feels distinct enough from quagsire

Meanwhile, who’s still talking about Ninetales when Alolan Ninetales completely outclasses it in every way? Sure it plays differently but if you want to use Ninetales, one is good, and the other is shit and still hasn’t really gotten any buff since it’s hidden ability back in gen 5, it’s the same with Alolan Muk and Marowak, only instance I’ve been able to see this not being the case is something like galarian slowbro where they took a big swing with changing it up and missed. I think most of these regional forms are cool, they just don’t really help a shit mon out all too much

As much as I like the idea of them in theory, I kind of hate regional evolutions in practice, because all it does is take a pokemon that’s been in need of an evolution for a while now because of how underpowered it is, and completely cuck it by effectively introducing a brand new pokemon that looks like it and then giving that new pokemon an evolution, while the old one still gets nothing. Like instead of a continuation of linoone and zigzagoon’s design philosophy for a final evolution, you get WOOOAHAH GLAM ROCK FURRY because they introduced a glam rock linoone and zigzagoon and gave those two an evolution instead. Don’t even get me started on how absolutely cucked farfetchd and corsola were. Compare this to mons like Gligar getting Gliscor, Scyther getting Scizor, Duraludon getting Archaludon, and Primeape getting Annihilape, just such a vast difference in how the og pokemon feels suitably respected, and at the very least gets the ability to run eviolite

Generally speaking I'm more partial for A and D. imo most of the bulg of regional forms should be in theses.

B can be used in some instances, like they did with PLA starters.

C is a mistake and it shouldn't have happened, all the non regional forms that now lack an evolution feel like a letdown. Honestly since GF seems to have gotten on the case of cross gen evos again, I hope that some of these can be rectified so most of the C group disapears.

Well, I guess Qwilfish counts. Who unironically touches that thing outside of completing the dex? I wish Hisuian Goodra was the default, its one version of what Goodra should have been if they weren’t pussies making XY, a snail/mullosk dragon is one of the things Goodra was allegedly based on. The only thing wrong with Hisuian Goodra is that the concept for Goodra could have also reasonably been Dragon/Poison or Dragon/Water. Dragon/Steel fits a snail, but not necessarily a generic mollusk.

they only exist because the designers wanted to give some Pokemon megas but the higher ups didn't consider those Pokemon valuable enough to become meta-defining super saiyan who are forever worshiped and immune to powercreep, so they got regionals instead

Technically B isn't a split evolution, like what happened with Ralts, Snorunt, Bellosom, Poliwag, Slowbro, Scyther, Applim, or Eevee. Pokemon that evolve in their debut region, but in other regions they get a different evolution.

I mean what's the point of calling that Alolan Marowak? If in future generations you can use a normal Cubone (from any region) give it a special item and evolve into that, like what happened with Leafeon and Glaceon that were exclusive to Sinnoh because of the way they evolved, you could say they were proto-regional, and then they said fuck that, use leaf stone and ice stone.

I like them to feel more like their own complete line. The fully unique evolutions tend to be worse so A>D. C makes the original feel incomplete or subpar. Not much different than the complaints about Hydrapple. I do like Mr Ryme however. B feels the most like "this was just tacked on"

Bs probably come from designers having an idea for the final form, but either no clue on how to take one the changes in their pre evos (A-Executtor, H-Lilligant, G-Weezing) or knowing that the can't touch the pre evos (pikachu and A-raichu or the PLA starters).

In some cases, it kinda works Like A-Executor. Others is kinda baffling, there is no reason for Cubone to be a pure ghost type that evolves to A-Marowak.

Regional evolutions bother my autistic ass regardless of if the original mon had an evolution or not, because it means there's an entire new number in the dex for a mon that not only already resembles an existing one, but will likely only be available through normal means in it's debut game, if it's even available at all. Paradox mons annoy me even more in this regard because nearly all of them just suck in general.
