>>56397327I genuinely don't get the hate for this game. I stopped playing after gen 5 initially because I didn't have a 3DS and later because I mainly heard negative things about gen 6 and beyond, but two months ago I decided to pick up Violet and it's been the most fun I've had with a Pokemon game ever. The open world lets you do whatever you want in whatever order you want instead of being railroaded into everything all the time, and the QoL changes (since gen 5 at least) are subtle but have a massive impact in keeping the game fun at all times. Yes, there's performance issues in some places, but nothing actually game-ruining. Maybe it's because I started almost two years after launch, but the only serious bugs I encountered were the picnic table sometimes vanishing (needing the game to be closed and restarted) and four crashes throughout more than 180 hours of gameplay.
The only part of the game I actually disliked was the Teal Mask part of the DLC; the storyline was a fully railroaded 'talk to this guy, then go there, than talk to that guy, then talk to that guy again' cutscene after cutscene slog with occasional battles against the same two opponents over and over again (often for reasons that made little story sense), and the map doesn't fit SV's movement and mechanics. It's basically all the bad things I've been hearing about post-NDS Pokemon in a single DLC. (Indigo Disk on the other hand was a lot of fun.)
I sometimes wonder how many of the people complaining about SV have actually played the game, and how many people are just parroting what they've heard others say. Have people been full of shit since XY and I should try gen 6, 7 and 8 as well despite hearing they're not fun, or is this just Game Freak-hating inertia carrying over from disappointing earlier entries?
