>>56398168Colosseum was made at a time when Pokémon and Nintendo in general was viewed as for kids. PokéMania had ended and most kids who grew up with it moved on. Nearly everyone was playing Sony's PS2 instead of the Nintendo GameCube. 2003-2006 was probably the low point of Pokémon's popularity. Anyway, I'm guessing Nintendo wanted Genius Sonority to make an edgy mature type of Pokemon game to attract their old audience back along with new fans as dark and edgy games were popular at the time. Thus we got Pokemon Colosseum with Wes, the only protagonist to have been a villain's team and who "stole" trainer Pokemon. Also Orre, the criminal-infested and run-down region, along with Shadow Pokémon, corrupted versions of Pokémon.
Since Pokémon is now extremely popular again and GameFreak has had great success selling games with younger, friendlier protagonists to a broad worldwide audience including mostly children, it is unlikely if ever that we will ever get a game like Colosseum again.
