I don't really think it needs to be, either. Stuff like Super Sentai/Power Rangers or Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles regularly reinvents itself with soft reboots all the time to shake things up and interest new fans. It gives you some seasons that suck and some that are amazing. Pokemon has always been an outlier having the same protagonist for like 20 years, and I think it's overall held the show back, but we may have also missed out on some absolutely terrible seasons that way.

Shudo didn't want that, it was purely executive meddling. This is why it kept happening even after Shudo left, not because the fans demanded it.

Nobody involved in watching or -making- the anime wanted Ash to keep losing at the leagues after the first time.

I was the same but I recently said fuck it and gave sword and shield another go and to my surprise... it was actually a lot fucking worse than I remember. Jesus Christ what an undercooked disappointment.

I think I maybe coped a bit when it first came out because It was the only mainline game on Switch.

The executives hire a group of writers for a promotional anime, but one of them (Shudo) wants to appropriate the anime and turn it into his fanfic/author's work, and since he can't do that, he jumps ship and years later throws a tantrum on his blog. That's what Shudo did.

Has been that way since the 90s though MCs were a girl (Misty, May, Dawn, etc) and a brown kid (Ash) with an even browner kid (Brock).

Yeah fair enough. I kinda always hated it, tried it and my suspicions were confirmed. It hurts more being from the UK since there's so much wasted potential. A UK region was one that wasn't easy to nail and requires subtlelty so it should've always been clear to me the moment they revealed the meme mons like Galarian Weezing and Gigantamax Meowth instead of stuff actually based on local folklore (which there are some mons but nowhere near enough)

Just like Dragonball, Doraemon, Crayon Shin Chan, Detective Conan etc etc. Pokemon kept the same protagonist because they never need anybody new. Even Pokémon 2023 would have worked with Ash than a doormat and generic genki boy.

Yours is bait, but I answer for the unwary. Dragonball treats its characters very well unlike Pokémon where everything is focused on trAsh. In the Bardock movie Goku doesn't appear, same goes for the future Gohan, Super Hero and Tapion movies (Goku appears very little in the latter). Dragonball distributes very well the protagonism of its characters in the sagas.

Wrong again, not everything focused on Ash. If anything,other characters got more focus than Ash including CoTd. This is not Pokémon 2023 where everything revolve around Liko, her special connection to Lucius and her special destiny with Rakua.
