Should they make it so that all species of Pokémon are able to talk like humans? Either as a retcon or with it somehow now becoming possible in the continuity of the series.

Also note that Meowth sacrificed many things to be able to do that, including his battle prowess and opportunity to learn Pay Day, and come JN we learn he also gave up his ability to evolve at all. Meowth, Pikachu, and Eevee that have the Gigantamax Factor can't evolve any further.

Absolutely not. It's probably what would get me to drop the series entirely. The talking Team Rocket Meowth is one of the main reasons I have never really liked using Meowth. It's really difficult to dissociate that voice and depiction from normal Meowth. I don't mind it in things like PMD because there are no humans and I can assume everyone is actually speaking "Pokemon" and not English.

Just stop being an animalfag. There's nothing wrong with sapient pokemon. Most of them basically already seem human aside from lack of speech ability.

If we don't go the retcon route. Perhaps there could be some means invented in-universe to allow Trainers to translate what Pokémon say. A game mechanic kind of like that was planned for XY but they decided against it because it would be too much text.

I consider all species of Pokémon to have at minimum the same sentience, sapience and capacity for intelligence as humans with some far exceeding humans. They all understand human language but speaking it is another matter. To speak human language, the biology of their species must allow for it in some way and even then it can take them a lot of effort. Most Mythical Pokémon and Legendary Pokémon seem to be able to talk human easily via telepathy but Team Rocket's Meowth had to spend a lot of time and effort with apparent drawbacks. So while every Pokémon understands humans, talking like a human is a case by case thing.

>In the games, non-fully evolved Pokémon that have Gigantamax forms and possess the Gigantamax factor (namely Pikachu, Eevee and Meowth) cannot evolve unless they lose the Gigantamax factor. Since Ash's Pikachu and Team Rocket's Meowth have the Gigantamax factor, they wouldn't be able to evolve even if they wanted to. We can see from Chloe's Eevee that being exposed to the means of evolving wouldn't do anything.
Kill Gigantamax. Kill Galar. Gen 8 is a blight on the franchise.

The developers absolutely hate the idea of Pokemon talking. So much so that despite Meowth talking in the anime for 20 years and with Jessie, James and Meowth appearing in LGPE, they made him speak in generic Meowth nya nyas instead of actually talking.

Doesn’t that retroactively destroy all the tension from that old episode where Pikachu was conflicted about whether or not he should evolve to get stronger? If he could never evolve in the first place, then that whole conflict was pointless.

My headcanon is that each species has their own language/communication methods but through practice and exposition they learn to communicate between each other. Humans are the same, enough time and they can communicate with a pokemon as if it were using complex speech, being able to hold a full fledged conversation. We the MC are basically a prodigy and can do this with any pokemon as soon as we catch them with little to no practice.
