A minor one during the campaign is fun as a pace breaker. A bigger one that leads to an optional area with goodies like Kalos Route 20 > Pokémon Village is, by all accounts, a lost art that we likely won't get back because of modern Pokémon map design.
Z-A MIGHT because of it being condensed into one city, but that's almost guaranteed to not happen, unfortunately.

I like them, but this bulbapedo illustration makes it seem WAY more complicated than it actually is. The entire right side is one contiguous piece with no contradictions between them. Same with the bottom two on the left side.

It's barely a maze at all. One of the shittiest Lost Woods I've played, both not very complex but also has zero signage meaning it's a minor annoyance. People bring up Zelda, and yes that's where Lost Woods comes from, but I think Paper Mario has a really solid example in the RPG format. If you want actual designed puzzles in XY you're better off looking at the Pokeball Factory, as it's one of the few dungeons that's correctly designed (the game's only sliding ice puzzle simply does not work).

I hate it. I like dungeons but this specific kind, I've always hated it. Boulders and Ice puzzles are more fun.

Absolutely DO NOT try to have puzzle areas like those, they were infuriating. Worst part of the game by far.
