It's the potential as a character, and I say this for both, how would it have been to bring a fossil or mechanical Pokemon from other regions and show it to the professor? Seeing Sada riding an Aerodactyl or Turo checking out the inside of Magearna.
Or even having them as comic villains being a parody of Magma and Aqua, one wanting a world dominated by nature and the other controlled by technology, there was so much potential, and what they gave us was a poorly constructed time loop, not even something fun like Back to future.
