>>56433339>soon as they give us one with depth and nuance people can't handle it and miss the point all togetherIt sort of reminds me of how some people get so upset that Whitney and Clair don't give you their badge right away (not mild annoyance or even playing into it like "haha i didn't get teh badge gurrr" like genuine seething to the point of using is as an actual argument for Johto games being garbage. granted GSC and HGSS have flaws (a few exclusive to them, other spanning the entire series) like all pokemon games do, but a couple of gym leaders daring to deviate from the script of "stand in room, give intro, get beaten, gib badgerino, continue to stand in room for all eternity" isn't one of them. Keep in mind their behavior is explicitly called out as bad by other characters right after it happens.
>>56433824>Sure, it's not like he loses his love for battles, but he sure seems a bit broken/defeated after that...nta and I think we talked about it, but it seems like the writers lost tract of try to developing the character or even progress the story and let some "Shota humiliation" fetish overtake them. Everything after the Ex-champion just seems excusive, and even the Ex -champion thing seems a bit too much. And because the worst thing he apparently did, running Blueberry like a dictator, isn't really seen much, there's no real catharsis to taking him down a peg.
Another anon did point out that Kieran wasn't intended to "deserve" the shit he goes through and the story is supposed to be a tragedy of sorts and on some level I can respect that, but if the narrative insists that (I) constantly knock down a character who's main motive is "wanting to be strong" can they at least try to provide a semblance of a reason why he doesn't deserve it?
