i'll start:
>the introduction of fairy-types is fine, but it should have had extremely-limited distribution akin to dragon or ghost in the early gens. this would have been better for game balance and the overall lore of the type, depicting them as rare and mythical beings (similar to dragons) rather than just anything pink or folklore related

Yeah, Koga uses a Forretress because that slipped my mind, and yes, that changes absolutely nothing to my point. I could be forgetting about one other trainer who uses Scizor or Skarmory, and that'd change absolutely nothing still. In Gen 6, a lot of mons were retyped to Fairy type on top of the brand new ones, and most of them aren't as hard to find as Dark or Steel types (again, except for Magnemite) were in Gen 2. You keep talking shit despite demonstrating so little, but what's your word on Dark types? We've yet to read your view on them in particular.

You don't get a metal coat until you ride the boat to Vermillion city. You could theoretically get one off a wild magnemite, but it's not like many people knew to do that and it's only a 2% chance to find one which can't be raised with abilities or anything. So almost no would have had a scizor or steelix before the Elite 4.

ok, here's my lukewarm takes. the real problem with a Unova style dex isn't about losing Pokemon. it's that it makes teambuilding boring as fuck beyond the first one or two playthroughs. the novelty isn't worth tanking the replay value of the game. 300-400 is the optimal amount of Pokemon for a regional dex to make varied teambuilding options without being overwhelmed.

so with that in mind, I would be okay with a PLA style Pokedex in the next main games. BUT, Gamefreak should also offer a Smogon-like battle simulator that includes ALL Pokemon as part of your Pokemon Home subscription (or next gen equivalent). and then they can make games with curated regional dexes like PLA but people can still use their favourite Pokemon in a side mode.
