I beat this game with rentals and I was a ESL kid. It's not even nearly as impossible as you guys say.

LMAO, the difficulty is good and should've been the standard for the series onward. Its sequel is one of the best games for newcomers and the franchise overall.

That's because it was not meant to played with rentals. Rentals were only included because otherwise people would return the game when they realized you needed the Game Boy games to play it.
