>>56448282I wouldn’t say mostly, but luck is prevalent enough that winning a single round or even a single set doesn’t mean much. Skill only reveals who is better after enough games are played to offset luck. Which is why ohko moves would need a bo5 or bo7 format, but that’s really all it would take to balance out.
And you’re right that ohko moves would be no more frustrating than the current rules. At least then bad luck would mean you lose a game that lasted ten minutes instead of two hours.
The current rules are so dumb though. They’ll mod the game to implement a freeze clause to “remove chance and make the game more skillful” even though that makes a big difference in how the game is played, but no way will they fix fly or dig so those moves can be unbanned. Despite them fixing the rare desync issue that can happen from seismic toss, because banning THAT specific move would make their current meta fucking crumble apart.
It’s just all so arbitrary and even inconsistent. It really is a few autists enforcing their own personal ruleset. RBY meta isnt big enough to find players anywhere else though. So it’s this or nothing. Which is why I quit the game like a year ago.
Honestly I’d take Nintendo Cup 97 over the current OU rules any day. I wish the rby ladder used that ruleset, or a 6v6 variant maybe. I’d still be playing if that were the case.
>Many mons were balanced around possessing an OHKO moveYeah, Horn Drill is the only thing Seaking has going for it in gen 1 for example.
