But they did indeed remove it after so once again it being in 5 games is a moot point. We all know how they release games yearly, they may have decided to change directions Gen 8 onwards and make each region have it's own unique gimmick so that people will have more nostalgia for certain regions. Like the Disney vault but for gimmicks. If they bring back megas every gen it makes it feel less special, and then people'll get bored of it. So Game Freak will choose the option that makes them the most $$$ in the long run.
I don't think they're too autistic about having the continuity make sense. That's why they introduced all the multiversal fuckery after all with ORAS since Ohmori realized he'd need an easy way out to make things make a little bit of sense. So they could easily just say that was the old timeline and in the new timeline megas only occur in Kalos. Just like how normal Hoenn and mega Hoenn exist side by side.
