Competition is good for Pokemon if it is actually an interesting and original idea, not a patchwork of elements from other popular series to try and appeal to as many Twitch streamers as possible.
Pocketpair CEO or something basically admitted that the way they made Palworld is basically by studying what was selling well and trying to conflate it all into their game. There isn't a single drop of love or genuine soul put into Palworld, it's the kind of game made to generate a lot of money in the short time when it trends online due to content creators and then slowly slip into oblivion.
The only kind of game that would succeed in give Pokemon real competition would be a Monster Catcher with its own identity and where you can see love and passion poured into it, definitely not something that feels like a ripoff or just the same things we have already seen before.
This is why all 'Pokemon killers' so far failed, whether they had a lawsuit or not, they all tried too hard to shape their identity over being 'better than Pokemon' instead of being their own thing. Palworld literally became popular as 'Pokemon with guns'.
The only series that came the closest to be serious competition for GF was Yokai Watch (and Gen7 oozes with that fear) and even it failed.
Stuff like Digimon survived fairly well and managed to build its own niche because it has enough of an identity that sets it apart from Pokemon.
There was no hope for soulless cashgrabs like Palworld to become serious competitors for more than one year to begin with, regardless of lawsuits.
