>>56473004ekans is an example of peak design. simple, repsents a concept(snek), just enough character to not be bland but not so much that it starts looking outrageous. arbok is a more powerful looking version of the same concept, with a more alert looking face and a thematic cobra pattern that doesn't go over the top and run down its whole body.
compare to seviper, which has edgy spiky purple patterns on it and too many added details like gold studs and a mess of four different colors on its face, or sandaconda that looks like a fucking turd also covered in edgy spiky patterns and for some reason has a hairdew and donkey nostrils, no child will ever think this pokemon looks cool or even interesting.
I'm not even remotely a genwunner, it just so happens that sneks peaked in gen 1 and got worse over time.
