>>56474216>Gen 1Red: Squirtle
I was really young at the time so I don't remember why I picked Squirtle, but loved the hell out of it. It was the closest Pokemon I ever had to reaching level 100 for a long time (before newer games made it way easier to level up in the post-game).
>Gen 2Gold: Totodile
Crystal: Cyndaquil
Picked Totodile because I loved my Blastoise so much that I thought I'd be team Water for life. Switched to Cyndaquil in Crystal for variety.
>Gen 3Emerald: Torchic
I think it was because they teased Blaziken in the anime during the Johto conference.
>Gen 4Pearl: Turtwig
Soul Silver: Chikorita
I loved turtles in general by this time (not only from Squirtle but because my sister had a pet turtle), so Turtwig was a no-brainer. The fact that it was green (my favorite color) and evolved into an ankylosaur (my favorite dinosaur) was icing on the cake.
Chikorita was because it the only Johto starter I hadn't used yet.
>Gen 5Black 2: Oshawott
Process of elimination. Wasn't feeling Tepig since I already had a fire/fighting starter and didn't care for the look of Snivy.
>Gen 6Y: Fennekin
Since I had done a water starter and grass starter the last 2 gens, I figured it was time to change it to fire.
>Gen 7Ultra Sun: Rowlett
Continuing the pattern. First time I boxed a starter though. I added a Dhelmise to my team which I liked better than Decidueye, so I boxed it to avoid having redundant types.
>Gen 8Haven't played, but my sister gifted me a Sobble coaster from the Pokemon Cafe, so probably that one.
>Gen 9Haven't played either, but I did catch a shiny Sprigatito in Pokemon Sleep.
