Hell, the one time they gave Ash a male companion, they did their best to make him look as much of girl as they could get away with.
It’s clear the Male MC means zero to the franchise at this point and is there simply due to legacy. If they could remove the male character entirely (and they sort of did in Gen 9), i’m sure they would.
There is no point in a male MC any more. Of course they aren’t going to pop up in the anime.
