If Nintendo shuts down Palworld then the game will literally become legendary, and another will take its place. But next time it won't be made by an incompetent knockoff company. It will be made by a company that's even better at game design, even better at monster design, even better at marketing, and far more proactive about shielding itself against unjust legal attacks.

Different from patents but a similar situation happened. The common slang word "goop" was trademarked after many years. That's not true. Hollywood exists because artists moved to the other side of the country to escape creativity stifling copyright enforcement. Back then, it was much harder to enforce federal law on the other side of the continent. Hollywood was basically an enclave of artists trying to create freely from the government without the fear of copyright law. The problems created by copyright law existed prior to disney's existence. You could certainly call Disney a hypocrite though for escaping to Hollywood, then turning around and engaging in the same behavior that caused them to go there in the first place
