The characters in the games became the hallmark of each generation, so May was replaced by Dawn, and Dawn was replaced by Iris, and Iris was replaced by Serena, etc. Masamitsu Hidaka playfully said so in an interview to the PokeBeach site in 2008. There is no reason to think that Misty and TR were competing with each other because they both had very different roles, but having another female character besides Misty would be difficult to manage the characters, so they decided to keep only one.
Shudo was a very talkative and narcissistic guy who always liked to be the center of attention, in his blog he always said things that would make him look good even at the expense of harming his former teammates.
Now I'm going to calmly wait for Shudo dicksuckers, those who didn't read his blogs but agree with him 100% of the time because they think that makes them look like scholars with an IQ of 280.
