In terms of being a remake, it's probably the best in the series. They actually bothered to give trainers some cross-gen evos which HGSS couldn't be assed to do for some reason.
As a game though, it's pretty meh. Secret bases are cool at least.

If they added gym leader rematches and maybe trainer customization then I'd agree. The Frontier (even as a dlc) should have been there simply because hgss had Crystal content. Otherwise good games especially compared to todays """standard""" dunno why some anons here hate them so much there's still rse

Certain dungeons downsized
Too much superfluous dialogue
Character redesigns are too dramatic, especially with the villains
Handholding of the player that wasn't present in the originals such as forced teleports and free legendaries
No Battle Frontier
3D Pokémon still suck and look desaturated, when RSE were very saturated
Zinnia is a retarded annoying character that people only like because they want to fuck her
Origin Formes are quite boring outside of Rayquaza's

To this date I've never seen a bigger Fuck You to the fans than from this game with them teasing us about the Battle Frontier yet not providing it. The Battle Frontier was genuinely one of the coolest fucking challenges as a kid. There were entire message boards dedicated to guides to beat it. People were IV and EV breeding for weeks just to get the perfect mons to beat the bullshit of the Frontier. And the rewards were actually good, rare TMs or items you couldn't get anywhere else in the game and that were actually competitively viable.

As a gen 3 connoisseur, it was decent. My biggest gripes will always be gen 6 and its requirement to hand you a strong pokemon for free halfway through the game (Latias/Latios) which is doubly stupid because the whole gimmick of them is flying around with them, but can't unlock it until after primal kyogre/groudon part, so what was the fucking point of giving it to the player so early? Mauville is a huge downgrade for me and really hate it now. No battle frontier. And fuckwad Masuda's response about the games having to compete with mobile games so it was made easy...

Don't get me wrong, I agree giving the player a free legendary midway through the game is a dumb decision (especially as you said, before the gimmick they're required for is even available) but I never really got why it's considered a major knock against the game or emblematic of its difficulty. Using the lati is still optional.

Like, nobody detracts points from the recent mario games because they beat the level for you or give you an invincible power up if you die too many times, because that's still your choice to interact with it.

What is more in your way is shit like gym leaders having terrible movesets or teams. That's unavoidable no matter what you do.
