Let's say GF removes both EVs and IVs in the next game, only base stats matter.

Would that fix your problems with Pokémon? (Either Competitive or casual play)

No, EVs are a necessary strategy element. Someone can choose to drop a few points of attack for speed to win mirror matches or EV train a mixed attacker in either direction for various builds. Things like that mean you never really know what a pokemon is gonna do just based on their species.

IVs, I wouldn't mind losing. Everyone just maxes them all out now with a few small exceptions for things like trick room now that Hidden Power is gone, and Hidden Power could have been just its own innate thing instead of being based on IVs in the first place.

For casual play, I have never cared about any of this. I am fine playing the game with a Modest physical attacker with trash IVs if need be.>>56491381

remove IVs
replace EVs with something more akin to how Ragnarok Online did its stats, IE you have X stat points and the more you raise your stats the more it costs to raise them
ex: you could put 100 points into Attack and 100 into Speed and that'd be it, or you could go 70 into Attack, 70 into Speed, 70 into HP and 20 into each DEF stat, giving you more stats overall but less specialized as an attacker

EVs and IVs are two fundamentally different functions.

EVs can be changed and modified on an existing pokemon. IVs cannot.

Remove IVs, problem solved.

EVs at least have a limited pool to choose from and there's tradeoffs to investing into one stat or another. IVs are just a diceroll for flat bonuses to every stat, kinda lame

IVs, natures and EVs were conceived as purely rpg mechanics. First two diversify Pokemon of the same species and EVs are just twist on FF2/Saga character growth.
Sadly even casual Pokemon got infested with powerplayers that overanalyze and want to minmax the hell out of everything. On paper all these mechanics do what they are supposed to do but your typical Pokemon player is not fan of jrpgs and is coming to jrpg game with absolutely dogshit mentality.

And then there are competitive fags that are the same but 100000 worse.

The only real issue with IVs is that Trick Room is a centralizing mechanic with no real counter-play and instead has a bunch of checks in the form of other moves (not a single ability exists which removes Trick Room). Giving a rusty bottle cap that sets IVs to zero is a bandage for a larger issue.
Instead, there should be:
An anti-TR ability or removal move akin to Defog for screens and hazards or add TR as a terrain effect/have the fairy terrain that sucks negate TR entirely while the terrain is up instead so that it can easily be removed with a swap.
Cap all IVs to 31 for ranked battles only and have speed ties be decided based on the amount of total EVs a Pokémon has (if you want to win a speed tie, fuck you, have less damage or defenses).

Removing IVs, yes. While not very important in casual play, it's the biggest setback for teambuilding in competitive. Interesting in theory, but in practice, it's all max, some min in niche setups, and determining the effect of one now removed move. It's also borderline, if not outright gambling, pic related.
Removing EVs, no. >>56491490 explained very well why. Managing them could use some rework, but I think the current system is fine enough and I prefer it over the flat stat boosts of Stat EXP, AVs, and Effort Levels.
Even so, it still doesn't fix my issues with Pokémon currently, but it'd be an slight improvement.

So the general consensus seems to be that EVs are OK, not necessarily good mind you (IMO there's no reason for it to be 4 EVs out of 510 = 1 Stat point instead of a more streamlined approach)

Just add some lab after E4 where you ultraprofessionally breed pocket monsters and get to choose their IVs for a shit ton of cash, so you grind money in game rather than fuck around with eggcycles and rng n shit
