>>56492945Because they didn't violate a patent filed back in 2021? Ain't hard to do some reading and research my dude.
There's some stupid fucking patent that was filed when PLA was in development that basically patents the concept of throwing an item to capture a monster in an open environment and Palworld pretty much copies that mechanic. Bullshit patents are also the reason why back in the 2000s, Bamco games like DBZ Budokai, Tenkaichi, Raging Blast and Tekken were the only games that had loading screen minigames, because Bamco patented the concept.
It's bullshit, but it does give Nintendo/TPC the right to sue over it.
Patent infringement isn't the same as copyright infringement and its not like they own the concept to monster capturing games as a whole. You're allowed to parody the designs but you're not allowed to copy the way Pokemon are captured in PLA.
I also doubt they could patent the catching mechanic in the usual Pokemon games since its already been utilised in so many other games by this point, whereas the specific implementation in PLA wasn't.
Patents always feel like a massive ball and chain in the games industry.
