Secondly, Japan executives think they ONLY understand what goes on in Japan, and believe that they do not understand a single lick of what the west wants. This is part of the reason why they allow for localizations by third parties, rather than just regular translations.
There's also the unfortunate implication that Pokemon isn't actually doing as well as it sounds like, considering they didn't even hire anyone who was well known but rather just hired an ex-yoga teacher.
