What I don't like about the current cast (the normal non fat version) is that they're charismatic in a very different way than the ashnime crews were, they have vibrant personalities which means they are a legitimate threat to the hegemony of Ash's reputation as the Pokemon anime symbol.
As a person whose entire online personality and otaku roots are based on being an ashnime fan, it's not something I believe I have the right to personally resonate with because that would be a betrayal of sorts, even if I acknowledge the validity of the Horizons cast and that they're interesting characters
