On the one hand, I think it's a good thing because it's protecting people's creative work from low effort copies and I think general sentiment is only against Nintendo because they're a big company and it's definitely cool to hate big companies, for some reason. I think that, if it was the opposite way round and Nintendo made something clearly inspired and very close to ripping off someone's stuff, we'd support the little guy.
On the other hand, Pokemon has felt lazy and derivative for at least a decade now. So, a lazy, derivative copy that does a lot of things better is a good kick up the arse for those same creatives.
I have a lot more thoughts, as I know there's a shit load of nuance, but those are my initial two pennies.
