Still wouldn't be all that bad if Umbreon and Sneasel weren't your only other options for dark-types before beating Lance, assuming you're not playing Gold or Silver. Most of the wild fire-types also aren't great unless you get access to a fire stone early.
>UnovaLate-game evolutions (lvl. 50+ requirement for, at best, just okay Pokémon) were a mistake and you can't convince me otherwise. Regardless, they're mostly skippable Pokémon anyway and the postgame for Unova is significantly bigger than what you portray.
Overall Johto is definitely the biggest offender of the three, but Unova isn't great either.
