favorite mon for gameplay reasons?
i.e. how it feels to find/capture it, train it, fight with or against it, etc.
Gyara plays pretty differently in each of the early gens

Saving this thread, it is pure of heart.

I'm a big fan of Teddiursa/Ursaring in Crystal especially. High Attack, STAB Normal attacks, and if you put in the effort, you can get one early on Friday mornings. I love that kind of thing, it makes certain days of the week more special

Dont really have an opinion for 4th gen and I havent spent 100s of hours on the later gens like I have for the first 4. Gyarados is iconic for gen 1, Lapras can only be obtained in Union cave and feels very unique because of it existing in the overworld, and Flygon starts as just a tiny sand flea type thing and grows into a dragon. Even though it still suffers 4x weakness to ice it was still such a reward using a Flygon since you need to train it to 45 to evolve.

i really like it when pokemon have three stages and also reach their final evo late. something about the gradual change is really enjoyable. unfortunately, that means i don't enjoy early two-stagers as much

So kino. Also agree with >>56519973 in that gen 2 Lapras is also really nice, I love when mons learn good STAB moves like ice beam early. In general I'm a huge fan of powerspikes you can have earlygame, that don't break the game longterm but are fun in their relative OPness when you get them. BW2 has some examples of this, like getting Huge Power Azumarill, Leavanny, and Lucario after 1-2 badges.

Hariyama in Gen 3, everytime. I can't resist picking up this mon if I didn't pick Torchic. Both it's abilities are useful; Thick Fat helps with Flannery and wrecks Glacia, while Guts can be used to pre-status before some boss fights if you want an easy sweep. Evolving at level 25 is really nice and is just early enough to take out Wattson.

dunsparce in bw2 for me, personally. if you stick around and explore the rustling grass, you're rewarded with this little guy, and while its stats aren't the best you can get one early enough to where it's not an issue, and you get to play with that awesome level-up moveset. glare, coil, defense curl, rollout, to name a few. even if it doesn't last you the whole game, since its stats do fall off, it can last a surprising amount of time which is fun
