We have literal creators of space (Palkia), time (Dialga), dimension (Giratina), and everything else (Arceus). I don't think Gamefreak has ever topped this since then; legendaries since then have gradually felt less "legendary" and more gimmicky.

The Legendaries downfall started with Gen 4. Gen 3 is a good case, too, but the different between them and Gen 1-2 felt refreshing at that time. Gen 4+ were complete and utter bullshit.

yes they did have that effect, but it's not a good thing. they're way too powerful, the series never should have gotten to that power level, especially not so early. legendaries were better when they were just powerful, quasi-mythical creatures and not literal gods. but Gen 4 made it so that you can't go back to that without feeling like a downgrade. it was a misstep. and the legendary/mythical bloat in Gen 4 was really bad too.

A) they put creation mythos in Pokemon when Mew was perfect enough of a mystery as to the origin of Pokemon
B) they made the creator Pokemon so fucking disgustingly ugly like holy shit why do they all have retarded faces, what a fucking awful gamble for them to cook up such overdesigned ugly messes and say yep these will be the creators

Sinnoh's myths are the main reason why it's my favorite region and the fact it explores so much into what makes the world unique really fun. They just fumble by having it all be LITERAL AND REAL when it would've been more fun to allude to Arceus and the like without it actually being in the games. Dialga/Palkia aren't really good counterparts the same way Groudon/Kyogre or Reshiram/Zekrom are either. Giratina's the best one since its role is still relatively unknown in the grand scheme of things. It just shows the fuck up, has implications of being permabanned for no real reason and has a genuinely sick typing that makes it all the more memorable

Regigigas was too soon. It should've been saved for a later game or even ORAS. I think it fumbles the Regi lore a little bit thanks to its fucking ability. Heatran and Shaymin were unnecessary. Lake Guardians too, unsure what they were cooking with them. I'd say Darkrai/Cresselia is too but PokeMas did a great job with Cyrus and Darkrai that I kinda wished that was a canon story in the games. Manaphy is good but Phionne is a fumble too

All in all it did start the "too many legendaries" issue to an extent, but Hoenn was also bad with it by having the same amount of legendaries as Kanto/Johto combined
