Blaziken was my favorite starter for the longest time, but the Quaquaval came along, and it hits pretty much all of the same buttons for me that make be love Blaziken so much. I love birds to begin with, and these birds are strong, cool, and cute, and their personalities may be very different but they're both great in their own way.
If I had to pick one, I think I'd give the edge to Quaquaval, because I prefer its fun-loving personality to Blaziken's serious demeanor, and its animations are some of the best in the game— if I wanted to make a case for the advantages 3D models of Pokémon have over sprites, Quaquaval would be one of the prime examples.
And the other bird starters are great, too. Both versions of Decidueye are very cute, and Empoleon's cool. It's hard to go wrong with birdmons.
