Newfag here. I don't know shit about mons and chose Bulbasuar because green is my favorite colour. Did I make a good choice?

Less fucked than Gen 1 since you get Sleep Powder much earlier but Vine Whip still has 10PP so you can't roll Geodudes like you can with Squirtle

I wouldn’t stress too much about it. Everything is viable in PvE for Pokemon. Just use who you like for whatever reason. Try some roleplaying and don’t turn it into a calculation simulator.

All the Kanto starters are useable, moreso in frlg. Bulbasaur is the best grass/poison type.

Geodude are slow enough that you can just run from them easily, but there's a bullet seed TM inside Mt Moon in FRLG where there was a water gun TM in the original. Bullet seed is still special attacking because grass type in gen 3, so it usually takes down geodudes if you're looking to save PP on vine whip. In RBY, you can just throw the water gun TM on a Rattata, Clefairy, or Nidorina/o (Nidoran don't learn it, interestingly).

It's the main game, so it doesn't really matter, but Bulbasaur is the easy mode because you have Super Effective damage against the first two Gyms and resist the third's damage type.

I found that out the hard way
And granted to all the rest, but Vine Whip simply has no business having only 10PP, especially when Razor Leaf has 25

Yeah, I've always thought that was strange. Water gun and ember both have more power and PP in the early gens. Bubble had less power, but way more PP and a chance to drop speed. Always made me think Vine Whip was supposed to have some secondary effect like higher crit chance or something.
