Gen VI with ORAS perfected the day/night cycle by not changing any encounters based on the time of day, like RSE thus not wasting your time.

hating day/night based encounters and events is soulless and a shit take. it's not a waste of your time, if anything, it encourages you to NOT waste your time by making you not play the game constantly or in one sitting, letting the experience sink in and get more immersed in the world despite it being such a small game in scale. It feels bigger in scale thanks to things like this.
None of the pokemon gated off to time events are necessary to complete the game, have a balanced team, or have fun. And, you can fucking easily reset the clock from a menu on the start screen if you absolutely cannot wait. It can also make replays different, as you may play on different days or times and get different events/encounters, or make your run different from your friends, encourages enjoying the game with others or trading - key pillars of the franchise.
It's not like any pokemon game is designed so you can see everything without a guide, anyway. So just use a goddamn guide and reset the clock when necessary, or plan your playtimes accordingly.
i'm sorry if you're an ADHD retard trying to speedrun the game at a specific time and arbitrarily refuse to use the clock reset screen and also have no friends or anything else going on in your life.

Pokemon was never really a great game. Yeah, we call those things "mechanics" unlike the shit in XY and onwards. There's a reason Gen 5 was just Gen 4 but on a non-dogshit engine, the base mechanics were already basically perfect. Gen 2 was a huge step compared to Gen 1 being a bit simplistic. Like, they were doing shit on the GameBoy that other Nintendo developers were barely approaching on the N64 and wouldn't really be consistently considered until consoles had an actual OS instead of just BIOS. Gen 2 isn't perfect, and it's arguable Masuda did more harm than good pushing it out while the fad was still going on, but it also did a lot to make the world feel more real which has been diminishing in recent years despite attempts with shit like overworld encounters. I think some developer on Wind Waker said "reality over realism", which is an odd way to put it, but it's more about having steps in the process make sense rather than looking like it is real. Of course imagination does a lot of heavy lifting when it comes to older games, part of the willing suspension of disbelief comes from filling in the gaps yourself after all. But when the gaps are filled with something that's kind of ass it just feels bad. Ironically despite being a much faster turn around, waiting for a Pokemon to spawn on the overworld can feel worse than waiting real life hours for a certain Pokemon to show up. But there's also elements of RNG vs consistency there as well, it's really complicated.

well they didn't even properly work most of em, in GS you could get 1 (one) individual, single fuckkng ball A DAY, in Crystal you can make them in bulk, but can still only harvest one a day, anyway.
the only pokeballs ever worth a damn besides the standard set were Quick Balls and Dusk Balls. Love Balls are very niche for friendship evos, good luck getting them from fucking Kurt though.

People completely miss the part where it's a game on a handheld console. Player was supposed to play it in small burst over entire day, not spend 5h in their gamer chair like some retarded streamer sperg. it is that easy. The disassembly is a bunch of word documents you edit and then construct into a rom, and there's tutorials everywhere. It's the easiest shit ever. You can change stats, typing, text, encounters, moves and movesets and trainer teams with zero issue. With a modicum more effort you can edit and add sprites, swap some names and have an entire new pokemon in. If you want to get fancy entire events, moves and mechanics can be added.

I fixed up the level curve and encounters, put the Kanto exclusive gen 2 pokes in Johto, gave Haunter a new sprite and put in Wailord and togekiss, and gave Lance six dragonites just because I could.

That isn't what he said, the day and night cycle means you have to play at specific times to do specific things which makes it more immersive, rather than just being able to do it all in one go. If anything this process would make you play the game more frequently. Crystal's events tied to the days of the week and ToD was it's most soulful quality, the game was literally grounded in how you live your life rather than just being an escape from it.

Not par with Dynamax/Z/Tera etc. but even if you consider Day/Night and Megas gimmicks they are at least great additions that genuinely brought good to the formula since their introduction and games thereafter.
The games that remove Day/Night cycles and Megas are way worse off than they would be if they kept them.

in gen 4 at least it's shown that the environment changes slightly during the night... though they should have added something related to day and night cycles like lowering or increasing the accuracy of moves in certain pokemon or something.

One benefit about Day/Night that people overlook is that it keeps routes from being clusterfucks of Pokemon. X/Y had it bad, where each route would have so many fucking Pokemon, making it a bitch to find the one you'd actually want. Day/Night helps keep things more manageable without needing to reduce the Pokemon variety. You could theoretically fit 15 Pokemon in a route without it feeling clustered by just seperating them Morning/Day/and Night.
