Mt Coronet in the middle just ruins it for me, I hate that damn cave.
Hoenn's only weak spot is the water routes on the right of the map, but they still get a couple interesting gimmicks (dive spots - albeit underutilized - and water currents which have a very juicy reward in the Regis cave), while Sinnoh's weak spots are a massive and annoying cave that requires way too many HMs to explore and environments that constantly slow you down in an already slow game (snow route, which is completely irredeemable because it's also mostly empty ontop of being frustrating, and the swamps).
GameFreak has never designed a region better than Hoenn in relation to the experience they gained in game design. Hoenn's few flaws are excusable considering it's the first region they created that stands completely on its own after Kanto.
All the regions that came after have progressively less excuses for being worse than it, though.
